This audio focuses on film grain and how it can translate through scanning into print grain. Plus- how is this connected to and affected by Print Surface Resolution (or PSR)… link to article here on FR on PSR.

My Birthday Rant
Click on the Birthday Cake to listen to this long rant on the possible future of our industry and suggestions on a more sustainable path. The discussion includes the current love-fest with the new Leica M9, printer ink costs and how video is going to kill much of the photography industry… video killed the photography star!
Note: In the audio I mention how I was considering buying an Epson 9900 to work along with my d’Vinci yet once I saw the ink price was shocked back to my senses. Well I guess not shocked hard enough… as I just purchased one. Now if you will excuse me I have to get to McDonald’s for my tenth job to pay for the ink.
Also, my birthday was on September 12- and for the curious I got a retro wood record player for my growing record collection.

The Leica M9… Coming Very Soon So Hide Your Wallet!
Ok… my birthday is only a few days away but somehow I don’t think this new Leica M9 made my wife’s shopping list… damn! If Leica fixed all that was missing in the M8 (which I am sure they did… fingers crossed) this would be the first digital camera I could be excited about in quite some time… of course it will cost an arm and a leg but thats nothing new in Leica-land. I for one will be tuning in on September 9 to see all that is new… will I consider buying one if everything is perfect?… not any time soon as I love the look of scanned film and my wife would KILL me if I spent that kind of money in this economy… I have kids after all!
Below is the promo teaser for the live broadcast release:
Print Surface Expectations

A quick audio blog on how our expectations of a perfect print surface has changed from traditional wet darkroom spotted prints to todays digital prints. Click on the audioblog logo to listen…
Note on image: I use my hand to adjust the brush tip on my spotting brush to a perfect point and to make sure that the flow of dye is perfect.
TIP: If you want to try to spot a digital print, one suggestion is to save the left over ink in your catridges and use them for spotting instead of traditional spotting dyes.

Hitler Hears the News About Kodachrome
Ok, Nazis suck and Hitler was a mass murdering maniac, but this is funny as hell…

Kodak Zi8 Review Part 3: Still Images and Final Thoughts
Sample images from the Kodak Zi8 using the 5.3MP still camera mode in both macro and distance setting. Click on the audioblog logo to listen to my thoughts on using the new pocket recorder, features I liked, features I wish it had and my conclusion compared to my previous Kodak Zi6 and Vado HD.
Kodak Zi8 Review Part 2: Audio and Macro Features in HD

One of the big features of the new Kodak Zi8 that I found exciting was the macro mode as well as the ability to have an external stereo mic input in with record level adjustment. As far as I know the Kodak Zi8 is the only pocket video recorder that has both of these features as well as 1080p. The video posted here was recorded in 1080p using the macro mode and with both an external mic (see picture) and the internal mic.
I have also decided to show this video from two sources… Youtube as a HD and wordpress as a HD video… you decide which you like and you can switch back and forth from HD to non HD to see the difference. I have to mention that I was wrong about wordpress.com not allowing HD video as obviously it does… try both and see the difference as it is huge. The downside to HD is of course the file size… this short video is a 136MB file so the upload time even with high speed internet is quite long.
