Gamut projections of tested papers in Chromix Color Think.

IHIW_9900PaperTestsSept2009

All tests were done on the Epson 9900 using RIP and profiling software by Ergosoft.

Bad batch numbers for Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta 315 gsm:

  • 601.098-A
  • 601.099-A
  • 601.100-A
  • 601.208-A
  • 601.211-A

Note: As I mentioned in the audio portion of this post the new batch of paper supplied to me by Hahnemuhle is perfect and the issue of the black specs has now been corrected from what I can see. I was informed that the issue was “fixed” back in May/ June but unfortunately the bad stock does still exist so check before you buy!

The Scarlet Disclaimer

AudioBlog LogoThis audio blog focuses on a proposed French law that would require all Photoshop manipulated images of a person to carry a warning label- give a listen. One quick note, in the audio I say that taking two aspirins and eating a banana on one foot will make you 6 inches taller… I meant to say will not.

My Birthday Rant

BDCAKE Click on the Birthday Cake to listen to this long rant on the possible future of our industry and suggestions on a more sustainable path. The discussion includes the current love-fest with the new Leica M9, printer ink costs and how video is going to kill much of the photography industry… video killed the photography star!

Note: In the audio I mention how I was considering buying an Epson 9900 to work along with my d’Vinci yet once I saw the ink price was shocked back to my senses. Well I guess not shocked hard enough… as I just purchased one. Now if you will excuse me I have to get to McDonald’s for my tenth job to pay for the ink.

Also, my birthday was on September 12- and for the curious I got a retro wood record player for my growing record collection.

The Leica M9… Coming Very Soon So Hide Your Wallet!

Ok… my birthday is only a few days away but somehow I don’t think this new Leica M9 made my wife’s shopping list… damn! If Leica fixed all that was missing in the M8 (which I am sure they did… fingers crossed) this would be the first digital camera I could be excited about in quite some time… of course it will cost an arm and a leg but thats nothing new in Leica-land. I for one will be tuning in on September 9 to see all that is new… will I consider buying one if everything is perfect?… not any time soon as I love the look of scanned film and my wife would KILL me if I spent that kind of money in this economy… I have kids after all!
