Back From Paris

Back in Vermont after a great week of teaching and shooting in Paris! Really just a great week with spring like weather! The last night of the trip was a nightmare tho with the worst illness I have ever had! You know it is bad the the Air France flight crew has you on the floor and bringing the oxygen… And on the Air France Crew…. Best ever! Not only did they look after me 100% they got me a seat in Business class for the second half of the flight so I could just rest… Free! So after 11 hours of sleep in Boston I made it back to VT and after a few days of rest was back at it! I have been testing the new Bergger BRF 400 film as well as looking at Rodinal / Diafine combos…. More on that soon.

You Have Nothing To Fear But Film Itself

Ok, total crap move by Nikon!  Who’s afraid of the quality of film cutting into their digital sales?… apparently Nikon is.

Considering the vast history of amazing images made with Nikon film cameras this strikes me as nothing more than a money grab… and yeah, photo contests like this suck anyways.

Leaping Outside The Box: Reimagining Photography by Stephen Schaub

Photography is dead… at least the photography that has existed since Joseph Necephore Niepce made his first exposure in 1826; the same photography that led so many into the darkroom of trays and chemistry; the same photography that our grandparents used to produce endless carousels of slide shows on Kodachrome.
So what is next? Photography has always been in the throes of change and evolution since its inception and this transformative, gut-wrenching period is no different. Photography- as our collective nostalgic memory remembers it-is dead. The future promises to expand our definition of what a photograph will be.

Welcome Back to the Revolution

Stephen SchaubIt has been 14 months since my last post on FR and during that time I have enjoyed a much needed break. From the moment I put FR to a private site status that required a password to view content I have been inundated by email and phone requests to bring the site live once again. I have therefore decided to make the site public once more so that the hundreds of articles on all topics FIGITAL can be accessed once again and YES, as before, still for FREE. Please note there is a small number of articles/ audios/ videos which were lost when I closed the site back in January 2012.

But, what about new articles you may ask? As of right now, I have none planned, but I suspect that will change with time. For now enjoy FR and happy shooting.

Kodak Files for Bankruptcy

Kodak Files For Bankruptcy

The End of Kodak? The End of Film? NO! NO! NO! NO! and also NO!

There has been a lot of mismangement at EK for many, many years but the film group is a valid money-making part of EK and I suspect- with restructuring- EK film will continue to flow from Rochester for many years to come. We may have to say goodbye to some films through consolidation but- is this the end of film from Kodak?…. No.

So stop your crying and start your buying… without film sales all bets are off! Now if you will excuse me I have to go process some film!

Steve Jobs 1955 – 2011

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
